In this short blog entry, the garage door repair experts here at Chicago Garage Door will detail some of the major garage door areas that we commonly pay close attention to while providing our Chicago area residential and commercial clients with garage door repair service that ensures safety and security at their properties.
Automated Garage Door Sensors
Automatic garage door openers require sensors that stop the door from closing on an obstruction like a car or even person. Often, this is a pair of photoelectric safety sensors that sense obstructions in the door pathway, and stop the door from opening or closing. Sometimes these sensors are pressure sensitive and stop the door from moving if the bottom of the door is touched. Garage door safety sensors can experience issues that cause the garage door to open or shut at improper times. These sensors require cleaning periodically,a s dust or dirt can get caked on them that disrupt the beam of light that moves between the two sensors. Other common garage door safety sensor repairs included the removal of gunk stuck to the bottom of the garage doors pressure sensor.
Garage Door Track and Roller Repair
Garage doors move vertically on tracks in the garage’s door frame and the garage ceiling, and the garage door itself often has a set of wheels that move on the track, holding the door in place. Sometimes, the door’s heaviness can pull the tracks out of alignment – this can be verified using a level tool. If garage door tracks are misaligned, they can SOMETIMES be readjusted slightly by hand – but honestly, we don’t recommend this, as it’s quite dangerous to always have a professional team adjust your garage door tracks. Sometimes scores in the garage door track get loose – and if the same screw is getting loose over and over, we recommend having a professional inspect it, to verify whether you should replace your garage door tracks. Sometimes loose garage door wheels can prevent the garage door from moving up or down properly. If this is the event, contact a professional who can tighten up the wheel. Lastly, be aware that ANY and ALL garage door spring related issues should ALWAYS be inspected by a professional, and should never be inspected by yourself, as this can constitute a safety risk.
