Easy Garage Door Troubleshooting Tips

Power Checks

Make sure that your garage door opener is getting power by turning on it’s internal lamp or plugging something else into the opener outlet. If this doesn’t work, reset the breaker. If the outlet is working, but the opener isn’t it might need repair or even replacement.

Safety Cords

If your opener is working but the door still won’t move, the safety cord may have accidentally been pulled. When the garage door is closed, put the opener into close mode, and put the safety cord back in the deactivated position.

Remote Issues

If your garage door opener lamp is working but the door won’t open, try installing fresh batteries into the opener remote. If this doesn’t work, try reprogramming the remote or using a different one.

Reprogramming

Garage door opener remotes sometimes require reprogramming after batteries have been charged. Garage door openers sometimes also need reprogramming. Just press the ‘learn’ button on the opener until you see a flashing light, then press the remote button on the opener.

Sensor Issues

Check to see if there’s any physical objects or coated on dust, debris, or mud obstructing the garage door sensors. If you clean the sensor, and it still won’t work, you may need a new sensor.

Imbalanced Garage Doors

Try closing the garage door and pulling the safety cord to unlink the door from the opener. Then try to lift the garage door by hand. If it won’t open right, can’t be lifted, or drops when you let it go, the springs or tracks may need to be readjusted BY A PROFESSIONAL. NEVER TRY TO READJUST GARAGE DOOR SPRINGS OR TRACKS BY YOURSELF!
