Damaged or dented garage doors not only affects the curb appeal of your home, but also the security of your home – putting your cars or any other equipment in your garage at risk for burglary, or even the rest of your home if it’s an attached garage. Dented garages seem like more of a target for burglars, as they might assume that your security infrastructure is also, well, dented. Here’s a guide to repairing dented garage doors as prepared by the Chicagoland garage door repair experts at Garage Door Repair Chicago.
Garage Door Dent Repair – Process One
First, gather up a wooden block, putty knife, rubber mallet, fine sandpaper, paint, primer, and some sort of patching material.
- First wash the entire area with warm water and detergent. Fully dry it. You don’t want to work while the surface has nay moisture at all.
- Put the wooden block over the dented side, and tap it with the rubber mallet to even out the dent.
- Use the sandpaper to continually even out the dent.
- Then use the patching material to cover up the dented area, and even it out with the putty knife. Allow it to dry, and then use the sandpaper to make it even more even and level.
- Apply the primer, allow it to dry, and then paint it.
Garage Door Dent Repair – Method Two
First, gather an air compression device, a source of heat, and aluminium foil.
- Wash the entire area with warm water and detergent and allow it to fully dry, as described above in the first method.
- Place a piece of aluminium foil over the dent.
- Use the heating source to heat up the foil to an even level.
- After letting it heat up over the dent for around a minute, take off the foil and spray the dent with the compressed air, upside down, for around 30 seconds. If the dent isn’t too serious, this should work fantastically! For more serious dents, contact the garage door repair experts at Garage Doors Chicago.
