Most high end garage doors have both battery backups and an ability to be paired with Wi-Fi. Garage door beeping is associated with these aspects – and beeping often is meant as an alert as to a necessary function of the garage door opener, or the completion of a programming task. In this blog entry, the garage door opener repair experts here at Garage Door Repair Chicago will briefly detail what different types of garage door beeping means.
What it means when garage door openers are beeping every 2 minutes:
If your garage door opener is beeping every 2 minutes, your garage door opener has likely lost power and is running on battery backup power mode. The battery LED display will likely have a solid orange color. Make sure your home power source is quickly corrected – if the power is back up and the orange light is still illuminated, test that the unit’s connected electrical outlet is still working by plugging another device in. If this doesn’t work, and the outlet is malfunctioning, call an electrician for help.
What it means when garage door openers are beeping every 30 seconds:
If this is happening and an orange light is flashing, the garage door opener’s battery is low. Check that the electrical outlet works by plugging another device in – if the LED has not changed from orange to green and the other device’s power works, recharge your garage door opener batteries. If the LED light shows a solid red color, the battery is completely empty and cannot be recharged, meaning you will have to replace the battery all together. You can stop the beeping until batteries are replaced by unplugging the garage door opener from the electrical outlet and removing the battery and then plugging the unit back in.
