Advantages of Insulated Garage Doors

The two main types of garage door insulation are polystyrene insulation and polyurethane insulation. Polystyrene insulation is somewhat cheaper, and requires the installation of a padding board that sits flush on the interior of the garage door. Polyurethane insulation is twice as powerful, and requires the spraying of a binding foam between two layers of the garage door material.

Advantages of Insulated Garage Doors

Warmth During Winter

Many people utilize their garage for far more than simply keeping their cars. Garages are used for hobbies, exercise, and crafting. Even when garages are simply used as garages only, people often move between their garage and their home on a regular basis. By insulating your garage door, your garage will stay far more comfortable and warm during the Winter months.

Summer Coolness

Insulated garage doors keep warm air out during the summer. Garages that are directly hit by sunlight often get quite hot – insulated garage doors and prevent this! This will increase your comfort during the hot months of summer, and additionally lower the costs of associated air conditioning.

Energy Efficiency

Non-insulated garage doors are considered some of the least energy efficient areas of their home – they simply leak temperature due to gaps and air leakage, which can in turn change the temperature of your home due to the connection between your garage and high traffic home areas – or rooms positioned above your garage. Any cold air in your garage can suck heat from your home – and warm air in your garage makes it much harder to cool down your home during the hot months of summer. This causes heating and cooling systems to work harder – and more expensively – to heat or cool your home. By insulating your garage, your home will be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, which saves you money, and reduces energy expenditure.

Protect your Vehicle and Belongings

Exposure to extreme heat or cold can affect the tire pressure, battery life, wiring, or fluids of your vehicle – as well as other items in your garage including paint, motor oil, cleaning supplies, and much more! Insulated garage doors prevent moisture from accumulating in your garage, which in turn prevents mold, making it safer to store paper and photographs in your garage.

Quiet

Insulated garage doors are quieter than typical garage doors. The insulation lowers the level of vibration on the door when it opens and closes, and dampens outdoor sounds when the garage door is closed. This will soften or prevent the leaking in of outdoor noises like traffic, people, or animals.
